Quick Answer
Wash your stroller cover on a delicate cycle at the manufacturer ceiling: 30 °C (86 °F) for Bugaboo, Babyzen and Cybex; 40 °C (104 °F) for the Stokke Xplory X; cold water for Maxi-Cosi (UPPAbaby = spot clean / hand wash cold water). The harness stays apart: Britax and Stokke require a damp cloth, Maxi-Cosi tolerates the washer with buckles closed — read the manual. Dry flat away from direct sunlight, never tumble dry for Bugaboo or Cybex. For large multi-piece loads (double stroller + accessories), an 18 kg (40 lb) washer is available at the laundromat (comforter / bedding / large load).
At a glance
- Manufacturer ceiling: 30 °C / 86 °F (Bugaboo, Babyzen, Cybex), 40 °C / 104 °F (Stokke Xplory X), cold water Maxi-Cosi (UPPAbaby = spot clean / hand wash cold water). Never exceed it.
- Harness apart: Britax and Stokke = damp cloth / spot clean. Maxi-Cosi = washer with buckles closed. For the rest, follow the manual.
- No bleach for Bugaboo or UPPAbaby. No tumble dryer for Bugaboo or Cybex.
- Dry flat or hung, away from direct sunlight (Cybex instruction).
- GINETEX care symbols = primary reference when the manual is missing.
- Large load (double stroller, multi-piece set) → 18 kg / 40 lb washer at the laundromat, open 07:00–22:00 every day, detergent and fabric softener included.
The detergent included in the laundromat cycle price is universal, not a specifically baby-formulated product. If you prefer a fragrance-free baby detergent↗, bring your own from home.

Values pulled from the official care pages of Bugaboo, Babyzen, Cybex, Stokke, Britax, UPPAbaby, Maxi-Cosi. For “Per manual” cells, open the manual of your exact model — instructions vary across generations.
Step by step
1. Read the manual and the care symbols
Open your stroller’s manual (PDF from the maker or official care page) and identify the washable parts. On those parts, check the sewn GINETEX symbols (ISO 3758): they show the maximum temperature, the allowed drying method, and any bleach restriction.
2. Detach the cover, the canopy and the harness pads
Work flat on a clean surface. Detach:
- the seat liner (clips or zips depending on the brand);
- the canopy (zips, snaps, arch clips);
- the bumper bar, removable basket, foot muff if any;
- the harness pads (shoulder strap covers).
The harness itself stays on the frame for most brands: Britax and Stokke never put it in the washer. Maxi-Cosi tolerates the washer with buckles closed for the seat fabric, but the harness is a safety part — re-read the manual at the first doubt.
3. Pre-treat biological stains
Spit-up, milk, urine: blot first to absorb excess, then apply a pre-treatment before the wash. Sanytol has a home recipe with white vinegar, warm water and dish soap in a sponge for spit-up stains.
Sanytol also offers a dedicated textile product↗ to use per the label instructions.
4. Place the parts in a mesh laundry bag
Slide the seat liner, harness pads and canopy (if the manual allows it) into a laundry bag.
5. Run the cycle at the manufacturer ceiling
- Program: delicate (wool or hand wash cycles are acceptable depending on the brand).
- Temperature: 30 °C (86 °F) max (Bugaboo, Babyzen, Cybex); 40 °C (104 °F) max (Stokke Xplory X); cold-water delicate cycle (Maxi-Cosi); spot clean or hand wash cold water (UPPAbaby).
- Detergent: mild, no bleach (forbidden Bugaboo + UPPAbaby).
- Spin: low.
- Never exceed 60 °C (140 °F) on a stroller cover. Ameli recommends 60 °C for bedding (sheets, duvet, pillow), not for a stroller cover — manufacturers cap between 30 and 40 °C depending on the brand.
6. Clean the harness separately (safety point)
The harness is a safety part whose material resistance is covered by the NF EN 1888 standard on the safety requirements for strollers and prams.
- Britax: spot clean with a damp cloth, never in the washer. Test the audible click of the buckle after cleaning.
- Stokke (Xplory X): damp cloth only, no soak.
- Maxi-Cosi: a delicate cycle with buckles closed is tolerated for the seat fabric, but re-read your exact model’s manual.
- Bugaboo, Babyzen, Cybex, UPPAbaby: open the model manual; if there is no explicit instruction, default to spot clean with a damp cloth + mild soap, air dry.
If in doubt about your specific model, contact the brand’s consumer service before washing the harness.
7. Dry flat away from direct sunlight
Lay the parts flat on a drying rack in the open air, away from direct sunlight (explicit Cybex instruction). Tumble dryer is forbidden for Bugaboo and Cybex. For other brands, default to air drying.
Check that every part is fully dry before reassembling the cover on the frame. A cover put back damp keeps water in the canopy folds, which favours odours and mould.
Edge cases
Double stroller or twins + accessories
A double stroller such as the Bugaboo Donkey, Cybex Gazelle or Babyzen Yoyo Connect produces more fabric volume than a single cover. For a large load, an 18 kg (40 lb) washer is available at the laundromat (comforter / bedding / large load per the canonical spec). Detergent and fabric softener are included in the cycle price. Hours of 07:00–22:00 every day leave room between school or daycare runs.
Tip: bring your own fragrance-free baby detergent for the cover if you want zero fragrance. The detergent included in the cycle price is universal, not specifically baby-formulated.
Bugaboo “breezy” canopy or under-seat basket
Bugaboo writes in its care guide that the under-seat basket, the rain cover and some breezy canopies must not go in the washer: hand wash with warm water + mild soap, air dry. For other accessories (parasol, bag, organiser), check the maker’s manual: they are not always machine-washable.
Non-washable plasticised cover
Some rain covers or insulated winter aprons are not built for the washer. Damp cloth + mild soap only, dry flat. Check the “do not wash” pictogram (crossed-out wash basin) on the GINETEX care label when in doubt.
Stroller of a sick or contagious child
During a cold, stomach flu or bronchiolitis, stay within the manufacturer’s limits: no bleach (forbidden Bugaboo + UPPAbaby), no temperature above the brand ceiling. If in medical doubt, ask your paediatrician before bringing the cover to a public laundromat.
Manual lost or older model
No manual? Trust the sewn GINETEX symbols on the inner label: wash basin = washer OK, numbers inside the basin = max temperature, crossed-out triangle = no bleach, circle in a square = tumble dryer OK or forbidden. With no readable label, default to the safest protocol: hand wash with warm water + mild soap, dry flat in the shade.
Mistakes to avoid
- Putting the harness in the washer when the maker forbids it (Britax, Stokke). The first good-faith mistake of parents who want to do everything in one go. The straps are a safety part whose NF EN 1888 standard sets the material resistance requirements — follow the maker’s instruction.
- Going above the manufacturer’s temperature ceiling: 30 °C (86 °F) for Bugaboo / Babyzen / Cybex, 40 °C (104 °F) for Stokke, cold water for Maxi-Cosi. The usual 60 °C of bedding does not apply here.
- Putting the cover in the tumble dryer: forbidden for Bugaboo and Cybex — these makers spell it out in their care guides.
- Using bleach: forbidden for Bugaboo and UPPAbaby. To disinfect, prefer a dedicated textile product, used per the label instructions.
- Drying in direct sunlight: Cybex explicitly requires “away from direct sunlight”. Prefer shade or a ventilated indoor space.
